Abstract
Every year, millions of children are exposed to many physical, sexual, emotional and economic
abuse worldwide. Measures taken for child abuse remain inadequate and the rate of abuse continues to
increase day by day. The purpose of this study; is to raise awareness among teachers, parents and
students through activities to prevent child neglect and abuse. For this purpose, 100 kindergarten
students and their parents in a primary school in the 2018-2019 academic year have been identified as
working groups. A pre-test application, which aims to measure their knowledge and attitudes about child
neglect and abuse, was carried out for the parents of students in the study group.
With the project titled “Scream, Hear Me”, studies aiming to learn by having fun on issues
such as immunity of the body, privacy education, personal limits, good / bad touch, and e-security were
conducted for teachers, parents and students. A privacy workshop was created with fairy tales consisting
of 5 sessions and a guidance study was carried out with the group. At the end of the project, which lasted
about 4 months, the same test items were applied to the parents in the study group as posttests; It was
observed that parents' knowledge, awareness and awareness levels increased. In line with the feedback,
dissemination activities were carried out for 934 students and their parents.
Statistics reveal that the vast majority of cases of child neglect and abuse are carried out by
people in the child's immediate environment. Considering the children who had to close their homes
during the pandemic period; It can be said that the house is not always a safe environment for every
child. It is for this reason that in this period, we can talk about the need to have higher attention and
sensitivity as a whole society against child neglect and abuse.
The education of both children and adults is highly needed to raise children who can say no
and maintain their personal limits. It is a necessity to continue with child neglect and abuse awareness
studies due to the fact that it is sometimes not the most reliable way to stay home during the pandemic
process. For this purpose, it is considered to be beneficial to continue the efforts to disseminate the
project.
