New Forms in Education in the international Covid-19 Process

Thank you so much for inviting me to your conference in Artvin. These are difficult times for Edu-
cation. Last year 1.5 bn young people that locked out of their schools because of the covid pandemic. Of
course those students who had learned how to learn who had access to good alternative resources, who
had digital resources, who had supportive parents around them.
They could manage. But the many young people who were never really motivated to learn on their
own who did not have access to good resources no parents no teachers to support them. They were left
very badly behind. for teachers this also was a steep learning curve but you know as we recover from
the pandemic. It’s not just about you know going back to where we came from just any more time to
        recover learning losses.
In fact you know before the pandemic the learning time that students spent in school you can see
that in blue here and this time that students spent out of school learning in yellow varied hugely across
        countries.
You can see a country like the United Arab Emirates where students spend close to 60 hours lear-
ning per week and you contrast that with Finland on the left side where students spend yu know a little
bit more than half of that learning time.
The huge variation in the quantity of learning time across the countries.
But when you look at productivity, you can see that students in Finland or Germany or Switzerland
