Education and Internationalization Activities during the Covid-19 Outbreak in Georgia

The world found itself facing a new reality during Covid -19 and the education system was no excepti-
on in this regard. With the help of the latest technology, the world was able to find an alternative way for
students to participate in the educational process without going to educational institutions. As it’s known,
due to the pandemic, online learning became compulsory, representing one of the regulations all over
the world. Despite the huge difficulties, Georgia also managed to switch to online education.
Some words about my country: Georgia (Georgian: , Sakartvelo) is a country located at the inter-
section of Europe and Asia. It is a part of the Caucasus region, bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to
the north and east by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. It
covers up to 70000 square kilometers, and has a population of around 4 million. Georgia is a represen-
tative democracy governed as a unitary parliamentary republic. Tbilisi is the capital and the largest city
of country.
Education in Georgia is mandatory for all children. The school system is divided into elementary, basic
and secondary or alternatively vocational studies. Students with a secondary school certificate have access
to higher education. Only the students who have passed the Unified National Examinations may enroll
in a state-accredited higher education institution, based on ranking of the scores received at the exams.
We have 64 authorized higher education institutions in Georgia. Among them 12 are state Universities.
