Authentic Learning Example in Grammar Teaching:
                                               “Teaching Gerundials with Lyrics”







               Abstract




                      Various strategies and methods are used in the four basic skills acquisition process of Turkish

               lesson. However, in the Turkish curriculum, besides the basic language skills, grammar teaching is also
               among the acquisitions. Strategies and methods used in the acquisition of language skills and in grammar

               teaching should be adapted to developing technology and changing conditions. In recent years, authentic
               learning approach, which includes objects and real elements of life, has been used effectively in many

               disciplines. The purpose of our study is to reveal how the teaching of the filaments in the Turkish

               curriculum, in terms of the sentence, will be taught based on the authentic learning model. In authentic
               learning, the events in daily life are brought to the classroom with a problem situation. Thanks to this

               application, students' problem solving skills will improve, and at the same time, their interest in the
               course will increase as they perform their own learning. Lyrics will be used as an authentic learning tool

               in teaching grammar. As an 8th grade acquisition in the Turkish curriculum, T.8.3.9 - Understands the

               functions of gerundials in the sentence. In the 8th grade, our authentic learning practice will be used in
               order  to  teach  this  subject,  which  is  learned  for  the  first  time,  and  the  gains  of  the  subject  more

               effectively. Considering the characteristics of the students' age and developmental periods, it is evaluated
               that  song  lyrics  will  contribute  to  the  learning  process.  The  achievements  in  the  Turkish  Lesson

               Curriculum prepared with a thematic approach are grouped under four basic language skills for each
               grade eighth level. The use of lyrics as an authentic learning application in the process of teaching the

               actual subject at the grade level effectively was discussed in our study. After this study, it is predicted

               that other grammar subjects and acquisitions will be gained in the literature with different methods and
               techniques based on this learning model.
