Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the experiences of village school managers on distance
education during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the research, phenomenology design was used which is one
of the qualitative research designs. The participants of the research consist of 17 school managers wor-
king in the village schools of Tokat province and participating in the research voluntarily. The data of the
study were collected with a semi-structured interview form created by the researchers. In this context,
interviews were held with school managers about their experiences in distance education during the pan-
demic period. The data were analyzed by content analysis method. The results of the research showed
that school managers working in rural primary and secondary schools faced problems such as limited
internet access in this process. The majority of the participants observed that participation in distance
education could not be ensured due to farming and agriculture, distance education was seen as a holiday
by some students, and there was serious decrease in participation in distance education compared to
face-to-face education. According to school managers, this situation has led to large-scale learning and
achievement differences between students who participate in distance education and those who do not.
