Investigation of the Efficiency of Online Courses in the Pandemic Process and Comparison with
Face-to-Face Courses
Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the efficiency of the courses taught online during the
pandemic process and to reveal the comparison of face-to-face courses and online courses within the
scope of perception of undergraduate students. This study is a qualitative study in which the phenomenon
(phenomenological) pattern in which the perceptions of students studying in different faculties about the
online lessons taught during the pandemic process is examined. “Semi-structured interview form” was
used for the research and data was collected from 19 students via online interview. As a result of the
interview, the students were asked about their opinions about the online courses taught during the
pandemic process. Then, questions were asked to reveal the efficiency and differences between the
online courses held in the pandemic process and face-to-face courses. The data obtained as a result of
these questions were subjected to content analysis with the help of Maxqda 18 Package Program and
thus findings related to the research were obtained. According to the results obtained, the general opinion
of the students is that the face-to-face lessons are more efficient and effective. Because the students
stated that both the short duration of online lessons and the lack of interaction between the teacher and
the learner in the taught lessons constitute important handicaps. The data obtained in this context are
handled in categories and various judgments have been reached in the light of these data.
